COS Christmas Cards

Swedish label COS was launched in 2007 and has since become a real presence on high streets and shopping centres. COS (it stands for Collection of Style) is part of the H&M group which is one of the world's largest retail clothing groups.

Having started purely in clothing, COS now also offers a range of accessories and homeware. This article is about a simple range of Christmas cards.
There are just two designs - a Christmas tree and a speckled snow scene. The 4pp cards are A6 (148x105mm) portrait. The cards are printed offset litho on out Shiro Echo, White 300gsm. The Christmas Tree design is printed Litho and is also embossed, with a beautifully deep emboss, which you (hopefully can see) from the image below, showing the inside....

Below is the dotty 'snowflake' pattern.
The design is printed in just one colour, offset litho plus hot foil blocking in metallic silver foil....

The cards come with C6 gummed envelopes, produced from Shiro Echo, White 120gsm.

Design is by the in -house design team at COS. Printing is by Severn Print who are based in Gloucester and have a variety of environmental certificates. The project was handled by Anita Barry at Severn Print.
Thanks to Anita for sending me the file copies and the lovely note.

COS Greeting cards & wrap

Swedish label COS was launched in 2007 and has since become a real presence on high streets and shopping centres. COS (it stands for Collection of Style) is part of the H&M group which is one of the world's largest retail clothing groups.

Having started purely in clothing, COS now also offers a range of accessories and homeware. This article is about a simple range of greeting cards and wrapping paper.
There are just two designs - a speckled snow scene and a stripe. The size of the wrapping paper is 670x470mm. Printed offset litho in one colour on the front
...and on the inside the FSC credit. The wrapping paper is printed on Shiro Echo, White 90gsm
The designs are produced on A6 (148x105mm) 4pp cards. The cards are printed offset litho on Shiro Echo, White 300gsm.
The cards come with C6 gummed envelopes, produced from Shiro Echo, White 120gsm
One of the things that it's difficult to show here is just how wonderful the cards feel as the design is superbly embossed. The snow dotty pattern is shown below
...and you can see the rich embossing on the inside of the card below
...and the stripes printed below
with the embossing below
Design is by the in -house design team at COS. Printing is by Severn Print who are based in Gloucester and have a variety of environmental certificates. The project was handled by Anita Barry at Severn Print.

Jobs from the past - Number 72

Regular followers of this blog will know that my first post of every month is a "job from the past" so that I can show some of the really good work from years gone by...

COS S|S 2007
Swedish label COS was launched with a catwalk show at the Royal Academy in 2007 and has since become a real presence on our high streets and shopping centres. COS (it stands for Collection of Style) is part of the H&M group which is one of the world's largest retail clothing groups. COS has become a go to shop for simple and anonymous clothing, minimal pieces and stylish basics. High on style and quality fabrics. Not for party clothes but a great range of  casually complex clothing at mid-market prices.
This is one of their very first look books produced in the UK and like their clothing, it is simple, very stylish and has great attention to detail lavished on it.

Size of the publication is A3 (420x297mm) portrait and is a 16pp 'self cover' which is saddle stitched. It has a deliciously floppy and tabloid newspaper feel. It is printed on our Redeem 100% Recycled 80gsm.

This is one of those projects that is virtually impossible to do justice to on this blog. The print image quality alone has left anyone that I have ever shown this job to, seriously impressed. Given that Redeem 100% recycled is at best, off white and 100% recycled and 80gsm, the reproduction on this paper is superb. The fleshtones are incredibly realistic and rarely have I ever seen such excellent black solids.  It is printed CMYK, offset litho by London based Push.
Lovely touch on the simple cover is the black coloured wire used for the saddle stitching:
As mentioned earlier it flops and folds in the hand beautifully.
Design and Art Direction is by the creative agency Saturday and the creative director on the project was Peter Hughes. Saturday merged with sister agency Wednesday in 2013. Peter Hughes has established his own agency called Assembly, based in Somerset House.

Print is by London based printers Push and is truly superlative.

COS - New Optimism

This is a few months old now but I've only just got some file copies - It's a publication for COS and as I'm sure you can see from the images below, it is a beautiful piece. Art direction, photography and reproduction is superb.
It's a 68pp self cover. Size is A3 and it's printed on Marazion Ultra 90gsm. It is loose bound - no saddle stitches.
Art Direction, design and production is by Saturday. It just has a fantastic feel - it is difficult for me to say much more about it - just look at the images below, they speak for the job...

This is not just simply a look book, it is a magazine and editorially this issue encompasses Fashion, Film and Design.
The exceptional printing (four colour black and whites are fantastic) is by Push.
