Chernobyl - Truth in our Times

Historian Serhii Plokhy's masterful book, 'Chernobyl: History of a tragedy' was the winner of the 2018 Baillie Gifford Prize for Nonfiction. This is a publication based on the Baillie Gifford prize lecture delivered by the author at the Edinburgh International Book Festival in August 2019.
This small booklet is published by Edinburgh International Book Festival and printed in Edinburgh by Stoneberry Press. The size is 198x128mm, portrait. The cover is printed letterpress on Crush, Almond 350gsm, one of our ranges made by FAVINI in Italy and is made using 15% residues from the industrial processing of agricultural foodstuffs. As a result, the paper does have inclusions and a "rustic" feel, which you might just be able to see from the image detail below:
The 24pp text is digitally printed on our StarFine Natural White 115gsm, which is a lovely neutral white and gives the publication the correct look and feel of a book.
Above is the centre spread, which shows the 'singer sewn' binding and a detail image below...
Below shows the spine, with the singer sewing. The cover has two parallel creases, which has "squared off" the spine. Clever and really effective.
Below shows the detail of the outside back cover. The cover is beautifully printed letterpress in two browns.
Published by the Edinburgh International Book Festival with support from the Baillie Gifford prize. Design, print and production is by Evgenia Kochkina at Stoneberry Press in Edinburgh.

Run & Achieve

Run & Achieve is the creation of Lily Mo, an Edinburgh jewellery designer. They are bracelets for half-marathon and marathon runners with the distances engraved – each bracelet is handmade in Edinburgh using sterling silver and cord that is water resistant.

This elegant packaging was designed and produced by Evgenia Kochkina, based in Edinburgh and is a brilliant piece of packaging design.
The card is 95mm square and is letterpress printed in two colours - a metallic silver halftone and dark orange and dark orange on the reverse. It is printed on our Matrisse 350gsm, which is very bulky, and is then duplexed making this 700gsm and 1mm thick. There are die cut notches for the cord to sit in and the cards are also 'round cornered'. The card gets inserted into a wallet (115mm square) made from Matrisse 350gsm which is letterpress printed in the same two colours on one side only.
If you click on the image to enlarge the picture, you'll be able to see the coarse screen of the halftone in silver - wonderfully effective use of halftone and letterpress.

Design, print and production is by Evgenia Kochkina at Stoneberry Press in Edinburgh. Her email says "I only discovered Matrisse qualities during this job. Very elegant paper and good for colours!"

This is a very simple, elegantly produced packaging solution ..and with the perfect paper!

Take a ticket to a Wedding...

Here are some stunning invitations produced for a wedding, which took place just last month.
Designed in the style of a boarding card, they are printed letterpress on our Plexus 350gsm board, which is a natural, brown coloured board. They are very simply printed letterpress in one colour (black) and are die cut and perforated.

Letterpress with a difference!

I've just been sent an image of this stunning table name card produced for a wedding.

They are printed letterpress on our Kapok 500gsm board, which is a natural, brown coloured board. The tree rings are created as a letterpress varnish which creates this amazing tone and embossed effect. Varnish is rarely used in letterpress printing, so this is something really different.

As well as the varnish effect, the invitation is printed in one special colour with matching edge tinting and round cornering.

Design, print and production is by an extremely skilled and innovative Letterpress studio, Stoneberry Press. The studio is based in Edinburgh and established by Evgenia Kochkina.

Have a look at the other work they do....
