Begg & Co Interiors

https://www.beggandcompany.com/Begg & Co have been making beautiful scarves, wraps and stoles in Scotland since 1866. The small coastal town of Ayr has been at the heart of the brand for well over a century, when founder Alex Begg opened his first mill and began working with skilled local weavers. Begg’s original ethos is maintained thanks to the modern-day team of dedicated craftspeople, who continue to source the best quality yarns in order to create timeless, versatile products that are heavenly to touch and a delight to own.

This is the Look Book for the 2019 Interiors collection showing the range of throws, stoles and travel blankets. The finished size of the publication is 266x145mm and forms a 24pp broadsheet, folding out to 798x580mm.
The above image shows the front and back covers. The format is a "parallel gatefold" as you can see from the birdseye image below...

The whole publication is all printed offset litho on our Offenbach Bible 60gsm ...and it looks and feels absolutely gorgeous - it flops and folds in a delightful way when handling the publication as I hope these images demonstrate. The below image shows the way it concertina's from top to bottom (vertical folds) before folding horizontally.

Printing is by Push and the reproduction on our Offenbach Bible 60gsm is superb.

Notey or Nice?

Studio Small are a London based studio, specialising in the fashion, design and luxury sectors. Every year they produce a Christmas card, but rather than just producing a a clever card, they always produce something a little unusual and hopefully useful. This last Christmas it was this lovely notepad...
The pad is A5, size and includes 80 plain leaves (160pp) on which to write.
The cover of the pad is simply silkscreened in three colours (white ink and two fluorescents) on our Colorset, Bright Red 350gsm. The front is pictured above on the left. On the back of the pad is printed the Christmas greeting.
The pad is glued at the top - the term for this is 'glued at the head'. The text pages are using our Redeem 100% Recycled 60gsm.
The pad is bound using "Padding Glue", so the sheets can be torn off easily. The image below shows the glued head and the perfectly creased spine...
Binding is by Wayte Binding who are based in Tunbridge Wells.
Design is by Darcy Ward at Studio Small. The covers have been beautifully printed by Harvey Lloyd Screenprint, who are based in Wadhurst, East Sussex. It is worth having a look at their website for some of the great work they do for the likes of Anthony Burrill and Mr Bingo.

Margaret Howell AW2018

Margaret Howell is a contemporary British clothing designer who has worked successfully in men’s and women’s clothing for over four decades. After graduating from a fine art degree at Goldsmiths’ College, London in 1969, Howell started making accessories. Her hand -made beads and knitted accessories came to the attention of Vogue and other fashion magazines, encouraging her to go onto designing clothes.
This is the promotional literature for the new Autumn Winter collection. It is a broadsheet format. Size is 140x198mm, folding out to 594x840mm and is printed on our new paper called SIXTIES.
It is concertina folded horizontally and vertically.
Above is the front view and below is the wonderfully 'ghost-like' reverse.

Birds eye view showing the folding...
The whole publication is all printed offset litho on our new Sixties, 60gsm ...and it looks and feels absolutely gorgeous - it flops and folds in a delightful way when handling the publication as I hope these images demonstrate. SIXTIES is a new paper which has the same translucency as a tracing paper - but it feels like a normal paper! … you can see the translucency in the image below:
...and here too:

The publication is printed offset litho in CMYK and the colour reproduction on Sixties is excellent, as you can see in the detail image below. Printing is by Push in London.

Alfred Dunhill - AW 2012

On this piece of literature - just the cover makes the difference!

This piece of literature is one that my colleague Gillian Thomas worked on, together with London design studio, Small. This job particularly uses the cover material to increase the quality and feel of the whole project.

It is the first issue of a new publication from luxury brand Alfred Dunhill produced as part lookbook part magazine, titled "To the Ends of the Earth". It features images of David Adjaye, Jamie Hewlett, James Marsh and John Hurt, the photography is by David Sims. The four images feature on four individual covers, the print run being divided between each.
The size of the job is 230x302mm portrait, perfect bound. It has a 4pp cover and 120pp text. Our Omnia 200gsm was chosen for the cover to give it a more tactile engaging feel, whilst reproducing these mono images with great quality. The cover alone gives the publication a luxury feel and keeps it a million miles away from the naff "glossy" magaziney type covers which is often produced for this type of publication.
The text paper is on a coated recycled (Cyclusprint - which works well and fitted the budget) but the cover has already set the tone and feel.
Design is by Studio Small, creative directors on the project are David Hitner and Guy Marshall. Print production is by Nirvana CPH.

An excellent example of using a material for a part of a project which can just lift the whole look and feel and make a piece of literature really special.
