Mulberry Mongoose Cards

Mulberry Mongoose is a jewellery workshop, located on a well-trodden elephant path in the remote Zambian bush. Local craftswomen make all the jewellery by hand using natural materials from the South Luangwa valley. This simple 4pp piece of literature is used as an information leaflet promoting the jewellery and tours of the workshop to the tourists who stay at the local safari lodges in the local area. These simple cards and price tags are used in the shop adjacent to the workshop, where they sell directly to the tourists who stay at the local safari lodges in the local area.

Size of the cards is 85 x 55mm and they are printed Offset Litho on our lovely Flora Anice 350gsm.
Flora is a part recycled text and cover paper with a deliberately recycled look and feel with specks and inclusions, so it looks deliberately flecky and specky.

The price tags are a teeny 60 x 20mm and have a little perforation, so that the price can be written on in pen but removed by the customer if it is being given as a gift - that is a really lovely touch.

Flora is produced with 30% post consumer de-inked waste, together with 60% of virgin FSC pulp 10% cotton fibres, which gives the paper a wonderful tactile feel.

The Mulberry Mongoose brand identity and design is by Matt Morgan. There is some other superb collateral they've produced, which I shall write about soon. Print is by Identity Print.

A Life Less Ordinary

Mulberry Mongoose is a jewellery workshop, located on a well-trodden elephant path in the remote Zambian bush. Local craftswomen make all the jewellery by hand using natural materials from the South Luangwa valley and this is their story...
This lovely little book, tells the story of how the enterprise began, the jewellery, the characters and the materials used to make the pieces.

The size of the book is a cute 130x95mm, portrait. The 40pp text is printed on Flora Anice, which as you can see from the image below has visible flecks of natural wood shives which gives the paper a visible, natural look.
The chapter divider spreads are printed using a gorgeous solid magenta...
Flora is produced with 30% post consumer de-inked waste, together with 60% of virgin FSC pulp 10% cotton fibres, which gives the paper a wonderful tactile feel.
There are these superb illustrations used to illustrate the stories, absolutely gorgeous!

...and similarly, the beautifully illustrated map:
The book is perfect bound, which as you can see from the image below is nice and neat with a 5mm spine. The excellent print and finishing is by Identity Print, printed offset litho throughout.

Aldo Filiberto Cards

Aldo Filiberto is renowned portrait photographer and film director specialising in editorial and talent portraiture. His work has appeared in a wide range of newspapers and publications including The Guardian. Originally from Italy, he is now based in the UK.

Fact is the London based studio of Matt Morgan and they created a bold identity for Aldo Filiberto by creating a printed frame over the image.
The series of 2pp, A6 size cards (of which this is just one) are printed on Omnia 320gsm. Unlike many of the printed items featured on this blog, which are printed offset litho, this has been digitally printed on an HP Indigo press. The colours are strong and punchy and the cards have a tactile look and feel. Being a digital print process it also means that small quantities can be printed economically and updated frequently, without the pressure of having to do a large print run.
Although Omnia was never originally developed for digital, we now keep it as a stock item with "sapphire treatment". This treatment is often applied to more unusual papers and provides a "key" so that the inks (which are different to litho inks) work on the paper surface. The great thing is the job just doesn't look and feel like a digital job. Above is a detail shot showing the excellent reproduction in the dark areas.
...and as Matt says in his note "they look great - Fact!" You can read more about the project on the fact website here: https://www.factstudio.co.uk/aldo-filiberto/

Printing is by Identity Print, based in Paddock Wood in Kent.
